Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English literature. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years following that as a general reporter. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. Then, in 1992 she was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She served on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. She has covered several notable stories over the years, including budget reform, tax reform as well as The Iran Contra scandal. She travelled extensively along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
